SEO or Google Ads: how to decide where to start

Compare SEO and search campaigns based on your offer, sales capacity, measurement and time horizon.

Start with supply and demand

Describe what you sell, to whom and in which area. Review how your customers search for the problem and the solution. Not every search term with traffic represents buying intent. Group queries by need and assign a page that answers each group before deciding where to invest.

Review the landing page

Acquisition needs a page that explains scope, evidence and next steps. If a search ends up on a generic homepage, it becomes harder to know why it isn't converting. Check that the form works and that inquiries reach a responsible person before you increase traffic.

Weigh the SEO work

SEO combines crawler accessibility, structure, content and information that's useful to the person searching. It requires continuity, and its progress also depends on competition, demand and the state of the site. Define deliverables and observable signals: indexed pages, relevant queries and sales opportunities; avoid committing to universal rankings.

Weigh the campaign work

A campaign lets you test messages and pages with media spend. Keep that spend separate from management and content production. Agree on limits, inquiry tracking and criteria for pausing or adjusting a test. Clicks alone don't indicate profitability or lead quality.

Combine them once you can learn from both

You can use sales questions and campaign results to improve organic pages, without assuming both channels behave the same way. Compare qualified leads, proposals and sales over equivalent time windows. If volume is low, document that limitation and avoid deciding based on a difference of one or two inquiries.
